The Thriving in Recession
 - Consulting to the Bottom Line

Presenter: Tom FitzGerald (FitzGerald Associates)

Corporate consultant and business catalyst Tom FitzGerald discusses how a consultant or a CEO can proactively use the recession, not only to survive in spite of it, but to thrive because of it.  In this recession, there exists a powerful opportunity and impetus for every company to significantly improve both its bottom line and its long term competitiveness.  Based on the proprietary tools and methods his company has developed over the last thirty years (and several downturns) Tom will share both his company’s  methodology and intellectual property on how to transform a company’s very _Will to Compete_.   So important is this “Will to Compete”, that changing it by just 20% changes the bottom line by 40%. Tom’s approach has been validated in longitudinal studies by McKinsey and the London School of Economics.

Tom FitzGerald, CEO of FitzGerald Associates since 1976, has been a corporate catalyst, business diagnostician, and consulting management engineer. Previously, he was with the consulting practice of Touche Ross (now Deloitte) and the Apollo Space program. In 1980 Tom's company created a unique technology to identify and measure the root causes/drivers of corporate performance, rather than the expressions of performance; and to use these causes/drivers to transform performance. His company’s approach has been validated by longitudinal studies of more than 4,000 companies.  Tom has personally worked with CEO’s, COO’s, CFOs, owners, directors and managing officers of more than 200 organizations in the US, Canada and Europe, ranging in size from start-up to Fortune Five Hundred. He is an accomplished speaker and writer. His work has appeared in more than 40 publications. Articles by and about him have been published at least monthly in national and international business magazines like American Banker, Strategic Finance, CEO Refresher, Fast Company, Corporate Finance Review, Turnaround Management, and others. The second (digital) edition of his book can be accessed at Fire in the Corporate Belly www.managementconsultants.com/content.cfm/fireinthecorpbelly.  Over the years Tom has spoken on this subject before hundreds, perhaps thousands, of C-level managers.  Tom is by education, a physicist, by birth, Irish and by instinct and experience a business catalyst.  Tom’s company information is available at  www.managementconsultants.com. Tom is a past member of MSPC.
