With specialized directories, full text databases, enhanced Internet searching, and a host of other products and services, libraries are a perfect place for consultants to come to expand their businesses. Librarians are potent allies and can help you with issues such as market analysis, company research, and other competitive intelligence concerns. Come and learn as business librarian Uri Toch explains how to best utilize your library. There will be time for discussion, so bring some of your business questions.
Uri Toch is a business librarian at the Schaumburg Township District Library, where he has works with consultants and other business leaders. He has answered thousands of business questions and has been hailed as the "best librarian in his price range." Uri is also on the faculty of Dominican University, where he instructs future librarians on the intricacies and strategies of business research. He is also very active as a writer, writing and editing books, articles, book reviews, and the occasional letter to the editor. He has from time to time worked on a freelance basis for people looking for business information, and considers himself a business information consultant. He feels a great affinity for consultants and other entrepreneurs, and looks forward to this conversation.

"Cyber-Competitive Intelligence - Using the Internet for Secondary Market Research"

The face of market research has changed dramatically in the past 10 years. The professional market research departments are gone and the responsibilities they had have been pushed deeper into organizations. You may find that you need find information about markets, companies and customers, but you do not have access to expensive databases or market research professionals. The good news is that there is a burgeoning source of this information available via the internet and a web browser. This presentation will overview the sources available and give you information on strategies and tactics that can maximize the usefulness of the information you gather. You will be given insight into search engines and how to create search strategies that minimize off-subject collateral data.
Bob Morland is a veteran of more than 25 years in new product development in various roles beginning with organic synthesis in the laboratory to market development in the field. After working for Union Carbide Agricultural products in herbicide and plant growth regulator synthesis until 1986, he moved first to Borg-Warner Chemicals and then to Amoco Chemicals in polymer synthesis and development. In 1992, Dr. Morland translated his broad chemical experience to commercializing new products. Since the 1998 merger of BP and Amoco, he has served in various roles including: Information Technology Manager, Business Development Manager, Chemicals Central Technology Development Manager, and Customer Technical Service Specialist. Currently, he manages Market Development and Customer Tech Service for BP’s Linear Alpha Olefins Business.
