November 2nd Pre-Dinner Program & Workshop

"The Six Thinking Hats: An innovative Consulting Tool"

By Ann Marie Calistro - Educate! Facilitate! Innovate!, Western Springs, IL

One key to a successful consultancy is the application of the "right" method or technique during an intervention with a client to bring about a desired outcome. Such interventions might include negotiating terms of a contract, discussing late payments or agreeing on a deliverable work product. Designing the "best fit" approach for a client requires access and mastery of a variety of tools. Edward DeBono's Six Thinking Hats provides a framework for critical thinking, a more thorough exploration of a subject and the creative ideation of possible solutions.

The November MSPC meeting will explore the benefits of applying DeBono's Six Thinking Hats to a variety of client/consultant issues. The presentation will also review the impact that such thinking has had on professional organizations that have embraced this approach. The meeting will conclude with the audience participating in a Six Hats approach for generating ideas about increasing membership in a professional organization such as MSPC. Participants will apply the Six Hats to document:

  • The benefits of increasing membership
  • What is currently being done to increase membership
  • The barriers to increasing membership
  • Ideas to increase membership
